1. Overview
This Privacy Policy applies to the SplitMate mobile application and the SplitMate website (together, the “Service”), operated by SplitMate (“SplitMate”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
Important: SplitMate is an expense-splitting and payment-tracking tool. It is not a bank, wallet, payment gateway, or money-transfer service. SplitMate never processes, sends, receives, or holds money. Any payment you make happens outside SplitMate, in a UPI app of your choice.
2. Information we collect
Information from Google Sign-In
You sign in to SplitMate with your Google account. When you do, Google shares basic profile information with us: your name, email address, and profile picture (if you have one). We do not receive your Google password.
Profile information you provide
- Username, used so friends can find and add you.
- Phone number (optional).
- UPI ID (optional), so friends can pay you their share.
- UPI QR code image (optional), if you choose to upload one.
- Your visibility settings for this information (for example, “Only me” or “Friends”).
Friends and connections
Friend requests you send and receive, and the list of people you are connected with on SplitMate.
Expense and payment-status information
- Expense details you enter, such as a description (for example, “Dinner”) and the total amount.
- Who created the expense, who paid for it, and which friends are participating.
- Each participant's calculated share.
- Payment statuses inside SplitMate, such as when a participant taps “I've Paid” and when the original payer verifies or rejects that payment.
- Dates and times these records were created or updated.
Technical information
Like most online services, our backend infrastructure may automatically record limited technical information needed to operate and secure the Service, such as IP address, device and browser type, and timestamps of sign-in and requests.
3. What we don't collect
SplitMate does not collect or store:
- Your bank account numbers, debit or credit card details, or UPI PIN.
- Your bank balance or the transaction history of your UPI apps.
- Any money. We never process or hold payments.
When you choose to pay a friend, SplitMate can open a supported UPI app on your device with the recipient's UPI ID and amount filled in. The payment itself is completed entirely inside that UPI app, and is governed by that app's and your bank's own terms and privacy policies. SplitMate does not see or verify the transaction. A payment is marked as verified in SplitMate only when the person who originally paid confirms it.
4. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and sign you in.
- To let you find, add, and connect with friends.
- To create expenses, calculate each person's share, and show them to the right people.
- To track payment statuses and let payers verify or reject reported payments.
- To show your UPI details to friends who owe you, according to your visibility settings.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To respond to your questions and support requests.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use your expense data to build advertising profiles.
6. Third-party services
- Google Sign-In for authentication. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase for authentication, database, and file storage. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- UPI apps you choose to open for payments. These are separate services with their own privacy policies; SplitMate does not control them.
7. Storage and security
Your data is stored with Supabase. We use Supabase Row Level Security so that access rules, such as “only the people involved in an expense can see it”, are enforced by the database itself and not only by the app. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Retention and account deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can edit or remove optional profile details, such as your phone number, UPI ID, and QR code, from your profile at any time.
To delete your account and associated data, email us at contact@blackmatrix.in from the email address linked to your SplitMate account, with the subject “Account deletion”. We will delete your account and personal information, typically within 30 days. Because shared expenses also belong to the other people involved, records of expenses you took part in may remain visible to those participants, with your personal details removed. We may keep limited information where required by law or to resolve disputes and prevent abuse.
9. Your choices and rights
- Access and update your profile information in the app.
- Control who can see your UPI ID, QR code, and phone number.
- Request a copy of your personal information, or ask us to correct it.
- Request deletion of your account and personal information.
- Revoke SplitMate's access to your Google account from your Google account settings.
To make any request, contact us at contact@blackmatrix.in. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data-protection laws, including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
10. Children's privacy
SplitMate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let you know through the app or website. Continuing to use SplitMate after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
